GEAR 1.0 Pilot Grant

GEAR 1.0 and GEAR 2.0 pilots are now closed for the 2022 awards.

1-year pilot studies utilizing infrastructure

GEAR Executive Committee and GEAR Advisory Board will review and select 3 proposals, each receiving up to $100,000 of total funding. Successful proposals will have a scientific focus on geriatric emergency care in care transitions, cognitive impairment, medication prescribing safety, elder abuse, or falls, AND also propose the following:
  • Involve or be led by early stage investigators (as defined by NIH) focused on aging science (e.g., junior investigators that concurrently apply for or received GEMSSTAR (Grants for Early Medical/Surgical Specialists’ Transition to Aging Research) Funding
  • Promote interdisciplinary collaboration across at least 2 specialities, disciplines or stakeholder groups (e.g., geriatricians, emergency medicine, nursing, social work, patients, caregivers, etc.)
  • Promote collaboration across institutions (I.e., multi-center Geriatric Emergency Department Collaborative--GEDC--proposals)
  • Use or incorporate the GEAR network Infrastructure (core and data banks) and GEDC Research Data Warehouse
  • Address health equity in emergency department care for older adults.
